MAYER HAWTHORNE & THE COUNTY

Stones Throw Records just picked up a new artist, and it sounds like they got in the DeLorean to sign him.  His name is Mayer Hawthorne, a 29 year old from Ann Arbor (a city outside of Detroit which is also home to producers Dabrye and Samiyam) with no formal training in music, you wouldnt guess he leads the vocals. What's even crazier is that Peanut Butter Wolf signed Mayer after hearing two tracks! He just released a heartshaped 7" with the label, limited to 1000 copies.  I'm gonna try n get my hands on that! Mayer Hawthorne & The County are currently recording their first debut album. Can't wait to cop that shit. Below is his first single, "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out".

KILLA PEACH

"Georgia Anne Muldrow's debut album "Olesi" was released on stones throw records in 2006. Inspired by solid '70s soul, free jazz and a bottom-heavy hip-hop thump, georgia paints a unique musical canvas that has the underground stopping to gaze and take it all in.  It's just one 22-year old woman behind such a breadth of sonic expression - she does her own vocals, background vocals AND the beats.

Georgia springs from a family of creative musicians, whose roots run deep in the '60s and '70s progressive jazz scene: her father invented instruments for Eddie Harris, and her mother performed with Pharoah Sanders. Their innovation passed to their daughter, who approaches her labyrinth of keyboards, synthesizers and various instruments with a fresh perspective every time."

The track I posted is from a compilation album titled "From L.A. with Love" featuring artists such as The Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus.
